This filmclub we are watching two movies by Antony Voronov, and the movie Baozhda by Keran Abukasimu.

The Room of My Mom
A documentary film about the unequal confrontation between a private house in Sochi, Russia, and a federal highway built during preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Antony Voronov studied in Moscow at the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors, specialising in both documentary and feature filmmaking. He has worked as a producer, writer, and director on commercial and social advertising campaigns. Since 2016, he has been active in television as an editor and director of documentary series.
Currently, Antony has completed the script for his first feature film, Motherland, an arthouse drama about transphobia, and is developing another project focused on euthanasia.
Baozhda
On the snow-covered grasslands of northern China, young Keran, visiting his relatives, loses sight of a sheep that was meant to be sacrificed according to Kazakh ritual for the New Year celebrations. Together with his cousin, he sets off on a search that leads him to a heavy responsibility and a heartbreaking decision. This gentle coming-of-age story pays tribute to the breathtaking landscape and to both the beauty and the harshness of its traditions.
**Film Club **is an initiative by International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). It brings (aspiring) film lovers, young filmmakers, and creatives together at various locations across the city to watch films and share their interests. At the Film Club in Dokhuis, we focus on films by Rotterdam-based makers or with a local Rotterdam flavor.
The films are accessible for both Dutch and English speakers.

In een poging een einde te maken aan het pesten dat hij zelf ondergaat, besluit een schooljongen zich aan te sluiten bij de groep van zijn pestkop — maar de prijs daarvoor is het verraad van zijn beste vriend. Welke keuze zal hij maken, en wat zal het hem kosten?
The Room of My Mom
Een documentairefilm over de ongelijke confrontatie tussen een privéwoning in Sotsji, Rusland, en een federale snelweg die werd aangelegd tijdens de voorbereidingen voor de Olympische Winterspelen van 2014.
Baozhda
Op de met sneeuw bedekte graslanden van Noord-China raakt de jonge Keran, die op familiebezoek is, een schaap uit het oog dat volgens Kazachs ritueel geofferd zou worden tijdens de nieuwjaarsviering. Samen met zijn nicht gaat hij op zoek, een tocht die hem leidt naar een zware verantwoordelijkheid en een hartverscheurende beslissing. Dit tedere coming-of-ageverhaal brengt een ode aan het adembenemende landschap en aan zowel de schoonheid als de hardheid van de lokale tradities.
Antony Voronov studeerde in Moskou aan de Hogere Cursussen voor Scenarioschrijvers en Regisseurs, met een specialisatie in documentaire en speelfilm. Hij werkte als producer, schrijver en regisseur aan zowel commerciële als sociale reclamecampagnes. Sinds 2016 is hij actief in de televisiewereld als editor en regisseur van documentaireseries.
Momenteel heeft Antony het scenario voltooid voor zijn eerste speelfilm, Motherland, een arthousedrama over transfobie, en werkt hij aan een nieuw scenario dat draait om euthanasie.
Filmclub is een initiatief van International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). Filmclub zorgt ervoor dat (aankomende) filmliefhebbers, jonge filmmakers en creatieven bij elkaar komen op verschillende plekken in de stad om films te kijken en interesses uit te wisselen. In de filmclub in Dokhuis kijken we films van Rotterdamse makers of met een Rotterdams tintje.
De films zijn te volgen als je Nederlands en/of Engels spreekt.
Entree is gratis, met een donatieticket zorg je ervoor dat ook andere activiteiten in Dokhuis gratis kunnen plaats vinden.
