De prijs van adem en brood: de milieudimensie van oorlog
Oorlog verwoest niet alleen gebouwen, maar tast ook datgene aan wat leven in stand houdt: de lucht die we inademen, het brood dat we eten, en het land dat het voortbrengt. De prijs van adem en brood brengt drie documentaires samen die de milieudimensie van Ruslands oorlog in Oekraïne blootleggen, van vergiftigde lucht en water tot landmijnen in de landbouwgrond en gemeenschappen die vechten om het leven gaande te houden.
Dit evenement belicht het complexe vraagstuk van Russische ecocide in Oekraïne, dat zowel de catastrofale milieuvervuiling als de vernietiging van de landbouwinfrastructuur omvat. Het programma bestaat uit een vertoning van drie documentaires:
1. The Mykolaiv Bread Factory een portret van een bakkerijmedewerker die dag in, dag uit een belegerde stad van brood blijft voorzien. Regie: Olha Zhurba.
2. Kherson. Breathe Slowly onderzoekt de milieugevolgen van bombardementen. Regie: Kateryna Murovana.
3. Bread from a Minefield brengt de verwoesting van de landbouwsector in beeld. Geproduceerd door Vgoru Media.
Na de vertoning volgt een open gesprek over de langetermijngevolgen van oorlogsecocide voor het leven in de gemeenschap.

The Price of Breath and Bread: The Environmental Dimension of War
War does not only destroy buildings – it targets the very things that sustain life: the air we breathe, the bread we eat, and the land that grows it. The Price of Breath and Bread brings together three documentaries that reveal the environmental dimension of Russia’s war in Ukraine, from poisoned air and water to mined farmland and communities fighting to keep life going.
This event addresses the complex issue of Russian ecocide in Ukraine, spanning both the catastrophic pollution of the environment and the destruction of agricultural infrastructure. The program includes a screening of three documentary films:
1- The Mykolaiv Bread Factory. a portrait of one bakery worker who keeps supplying bread to a besieged city, day after day. Director: Olha Zhurba,
2- Kherson. Breathe Slowly explores the environmental consequences of shelling. Director: Kateryna Murovana,
3- Bread from a Minefield examines the destruction of the agricultural sector. Produced by Vgoru Media.
Following the screening, an open discussion will address the long-term impact of wartime ecocide on community life.
